CES 2008: And the Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth...(Or, Same Time, Next Year)

As I write this, I'm returning home after four days at the annual Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Over the past few years, I've made the annual sojurn down there to see all the latest and greatest in technology and consumer electronics.

It is there that attendees from around the world get to test drive some of the latest offerings from major electronics manufacturers and also have the opportunity to win prizes as well.

In addition, a handful of celebrities made appearances at the show as well:

Indy race car driver Danica Patrick interviewed at the GoDaddy.com booth.

WWE Diva Candice Michelle at the GoDaddy.com booth.

Pro boxing champion Lennox Lewis at the Kodak booth.

Rising pop singing star Sean Kingston signs autographs at the Norcent booth.

As always, I travel on the budget plan, which means staying at the Plaza Hotel & Casino off the Fremont Street Experience as opposed to staying on the strip, which is becoming more and more out of reach financially for many tourists who are now looking for less expensive alternatives.

There are those who look down on the downtown hotels (Plaza, Fitzgerald's, Lady Luck, et al) as "butt-cheesy roach motels." Still, there are those who are astounded that I was able to get accommodations so dirt-cheap. I don't have any qualms about staying downtown, since it's much better than one would expect.

Even so, I'm looking forward to going next year.
